Precision Xtra™ System Alternative Site Testing
Precision Xtra™ Blood Glucose Test Strips provide you the flexibility to
test on your forearm, upper arm or base of thumb.
Why test on a site other than your finger?
Other parts of the body have fewer nerve endings per square inch than the
finger. This can make alternative site testing less painful. Of patients who
tested using alternative sites, seven out of ten say it is the same or less
pain than testing on the finger. 2
What do I need to get started?
Testing on the arm requires a special lancing device with a clear cap.

Are there guidelines for testing on a site other than your finger?
There may be times when alternative site results are different from
fingertip results. This happens when glucose levels are changing rapidly. Do
not test on your arm or base of thumb when:
- You think your blood sugar is low.
- You have been diagnosed with hypoglycemic unawareness.
- The results do not match the way you feel.
- Within two hours of eating a meal, taking insulin or exercising

- When testing for hypoglycemia or if you have hypoglycemia unawareness, we
recommend testing on the finger only.
